My Year at Fishburne Military school

Fishburne Boy Scouts

Last school year I was attending Fishburne military school because it was face-to-face learning and not online. When the school I went to turned to online schooling, my grades started dropping. I did not like the new learning method, so I wanted to be switched to an in-person learning school. Therefore Fishburne, I was not entirely ready at all for this school, it seemed overwhelming.

We had to buy way too many items to go and live there. I was a cadet who was going to be a 7 day boarder: stay on campus 24/7. Life in military school is very different than other boarding schools I have seen, for example, my hourly schedule is very rushed. At 6:15 am, the guards (the people who ring the big bell in the Archway) ring it side to side as they play reveille. Everyone immediately wakes up; however, there will be some people who will sleep past reveille. Those people will get their door opened with a master key or get the door loudly knocked on. Between 6:15 and 6:45 am you have time to fully wake up or do anything you need to do. But at 6:50 they ring bells for morning PT. At 7:20 you are finished, and have until 8:00 to shower, brush your teeth, etc. At 8:05 you get ready for breakfast, you have time to eat until 8:45. Nine o’ clock classes begin, and by that time one’s mind is fully prepared for proper education. The morning exercise had set the mood.

Lunch starts at 12:35. At 1:25 pm to 3:45 we had continuous classes. From the time when we get out from classes till 4:20 we had time to switch from our uniform to our shirt and shorts. At 4:20 we lined up for sports formation. You have a variety of sports each season. I played Lacrosse from 5:00 to 7:10 pm. I was late to dinner because of that. The second shift for dinner was 7:00 to about 7:45 pm. At 8:00 you will go into Study hall in which you can not step out of your room unless you have to use the bathroom. School staff went around to everyone’s rooms and would check if you were doing your work, if you were not you would be given a warning. Then Study hall ended at 9:00 or 9:30 pm. From there you have free time until 10:00 pm. This schedule was repeated for me every day of the week, which has made me into a much more discipled person. Although on Wednesday evenings right after school we either practice marching and other things.

On some weekends my friends and I would walk around the barracks for no reason, that would make us feel relaxed. At night time after 9 pm a ton of people would play manhunt around the campus. I have many good memories of Fishburne military school.
