My experience staying at one of the finest universities in all of Pakistan was outstanding compared to any other boarding hostels I had been to, and I’ve been to several. While making a crazy amount of friends in every class, I learned what a college experience would be like. I had a wide selection of restaurants and cafes to eat at with my friends, my favorite cafe/restaurant was called Baradari. It was my favorite because it was the closest and most affordable. Unfortunately the food was the same every day.
Summer camp students were required to take a various number of classes. I picked Personal Effectiveness, Cyber Security, Cartoon Animation, Fintech(financial technology), Robotics, and Comparative Literature. My favorite class was Robotics because not only because of my interest in engineering, but the teacher and the environment he created was enjoyable. He amused his students by adding humor with his teaching. He had kahoots at the end of every class as a “test”. Though Fintech was quite the opposite, it was my second favorite. As the class was taught with a strict teaching environment, it was the most informative class of all. Near the end of the final week on campus, the teacher assigned us into groups for a group project that we had to present. This was surprising and unexpected because no other class was doing presentations or large amounts of research and work for their “final”. Fintech was an informative class, but I wish it dove deeper into more topics. For the most part, all classes had their own interesting and dull factors.
LUMS’s campus was huge with a 5 minute walk from class to class. I noticed classes were scattered into their own designated buildings, for example there was a separate building for conferences with massive auditoriums or an entire building for Robotics and computer sciences. But most classes were in the “Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences” building, located in the center of the campus. I had my Fintech, Comparative Literature and Cyber security classes there. Unlike high schools, LUMS made its students feel like college students by having them maintain their own schedules.
