As a car enthusiast who also loves aerospace, or just anything and everything that speaks the shared principles of fluid dynamics to aerodynamics, I found a new fun to work with carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a lightweight intricate weaved cloth constructed of many polymers into a stunning pattern. This material is used as an alternative to steel since it is 5 times stronger and lighter. Sports car companies and aeronautical companies use carbon fiber on their creations. Although carbon fiber can’t always be used because of its expense and time consumption, it definitely did not prove a good fit for the Titan submersible.

Luckily, I managed to get my hands on an impressively large roll of carbon fiber and started experimenting with it. This material requires a significant amount of care when handling as the fibers in the weave can get disrupted. So far, I have been experimenting with making logos and decoration items. I plan to make gliders and other functional objects with the material once I am more experienced. Since the process of working with carbon fiber takes a lot of caution, time, and patience, I finished up my rowing camp on the Potomac River and tucked away in the basement to salvage my overly tanned complexion.

Tell me what you think of these items so far and keep posted for the next big project – the RC jet!
